Today I received an e-mail, the e-mail kind which can scare you, a little. Especially when you have not had breakfast yet. It has sent me by a man (a woman never writes things like that, although she is very angry) man told me many things, but beautiful, slim and smart, and he has said it in a very aggressive manner.
Later, on a full stomach, I’ve seen it different.
His main argument was that whole Catalunya, in the abstract, was a matter of, literally:”cuatro pelagatos, desgraciados, soplapollas que no tienen nada mejor que hacer que joder la marrana a los españoles” – “Four ragamuffins, unhappy, cocksucker who have nothing better to do than fuck the sow to the Spaniards” (sorry, I did not know how to translate this and I let Google do it, so I’m not responsible for the results)
Then it came an idea to my mind. Sometimes when you travel through the world, you get to a place of those that often appear on TV and then you see it very large or very small. For example: Picadilly Circus. What grace has a chaotic cross streets filled with ads. The famous Fifth Avenue in New York, on the south side, near Wall Street it is narrow! and so many examples.
This has led me to think that just the problem of my correspondent and by extension others like him, is to visualize the magnitude of the problem. Because at this point, now is globally accepted that Catalonia is a problem. So this afternoon I spent a little while to make a few screenshots and this is the result.
Let’s start with V last September 11, which occupied a distance of 11 km.
I will not get into the discussion about how many people fit in 11 km of two major avenues. I’m not going to argue about whether those people were so close to each other, they smelled the armpit or if the fat people were counted as two. To discuss that, there are photographs; videos and testimonies of Japanese who were in BCN that day and even hallucinate. I just put the V on the map of the city.
Now, we place the same 11 km. in, for example, Manhattan.
I took all the entire fifth avenue and do not fit in the 11 km because it only measures 5.5 milles.
Let’s go to Paris.
I needed to go from Place de la Concorde to the Defense.
Someone organized a protest of this size to Monsieur Hollande and must take him to a hospital. And I like to think that the first thing he does when leaving, is trying to find a solution. But of course he is not Maria-NO.
Next stop, London.
This has been complicated because London is complicated, do not have a single avenue, long enough for what I wanted. A lack of Avenue I took a spin around London, from Charing Cross to Harrods, thence to Kensington Palace, Notting Hill and a long detour to reach the Saatchi Gallery, I look forward to know it in my next visit to London.
But let’s go a bit back in time, until last year, when here in Catalunya, we organized a show worthy of the Guinness Book, the famous Via Catalana.
Leaving aside that some sections were in single file, while others were thirty or two hundred people in line, as in Barcelona. The only thing I’m going to consider are spanning 400 km.
That, again in England, and taking as a starting point the home of his gracious majesty. We would lead to Stonnehenge, to Bristol, to Worcester (famous for the sauce) and Nottingham,
.EIn France this route would take us from Paris to Maasthicht, who does not remember that famous treaty that took us to Europe and cafes rose from 100 to 166 pesetas?
And finally Germany, Angela’s home, who could go from Berlin to Prague and beyond, shaking hands with their fellow citizens.
Why all this?
Because not seem to have the same importance a peaceful demonstration linking Port Bou and Vinerós, with another linking Berlin and Prague (and beyond).
Because it does not seem to have the same importance 11 kilometers Catalan speaking those same 11 kilometers English speaking or any other language.
And no, I have not forgotten. I have also made these two maps.
For Via Catalana, that of the 400 km, my correspondent could have gone quietly stepping “pelagatos heads” from the Puerta del Sol to Valencia and if he can swim, he could get to Ibiza
As about placing the 11 km V in the capital of the kingdom map, it has not been easy because Madrid urbanistically talking is not a ration city. The closest thing to a V I’ve gotten has been this. From the Palace of Moncloa to real Madrid Stadium, through the Congress of Deputies.
I hope pictures, arose clarifying to someone.
